Day 0: Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha
You will meet our driver(s) at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), and transfer you to hotel or lodge in Arusha.
Day 1: Umbwe Gate-Umbwe Cave
After breakfast your guides and driver will meet you and transfer to Machame Gate where registration formalities will be completed. Then after you will drive through villages whereby coffee and banana plantations will be seen before arrive to Umbwe Gate.
Check in to Umbwe gate(1800m) and start ascend to Umbwe cave at 3000 amsl .Dinner and overnight.
Hiking time:6-8 hours walking
Day 2: Umbwe Cave to Barranco
The path gets steeper on this section, as you get out of the forest along the Umbwe ridge the route descends slightly to the Barranco camp situated in the valley. Umbwe Cave to Barranco valley (3,950 m); 4-6 hours walking.
Day 3: Baranco Valley camp to Karanga camp
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will conquer Barranco wall which is also known as breakfast. It is somehow technical part of the whole trek where you have to use your hands grabbing, hugging and kissing the rocks. After short break on top of Barranco wall, you will continue down and up to Karanga campsite 3850m amsl for lunch, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu camp/base camp
After breakfast, leave Karanga to Barafu camp 4,673m amsl. It takes 4 hours walking to Barafu camp. At the base camp, you will rest and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for the summit night..
Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka
After light breakfast, you will start your summit journey at 12:00 am. Enjoy your special night by walking slowly slowly (polepole). You might be exhausted on the way up but never give up, just keep on going while drinking frequently. At Stella Point 5,756m you will be able to spend short time drinking tea/hot water. It will take 45 minutes or 1 hour from Stella Point to Uhuru peak. Take your time to celebrate conquering the peak of Africa, enjoy the beautiful sunrise, crater view and glacius. After taking photographs descend to the base camp for short rest, descend to mweka camp 3100m. It will be your last night on the mountain. Hopefully you will get a better night’s sleep due to physical exhaustion
Day 6: Mweka camp to Mweka gate to Arusha
After the last breakfast on the mountain, you will descend about 3 to 4 hours through the rainforest to Mweka Gate to collect your certificates. Our drivers will be waiting for you at Mweka Gate to take you back to hotel or lodge in Arusha.
